Mr Stuart Woolley : Assistant Research Manager, Water Use & Waste Management

Stuart is a chemical engineering graduate with research experience in waste water and sanitation. Stuart holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Masters of Science in Chemical Engineering, both from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Stuart’s Masters topic was the ‘Mechanical properties of fresh human faeces’, which provided rheology data of faeces to grantees of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Reinvent the Toilet Challenge, for the design of mechanical faecal-handling equipment. Stuart joined the WRC to manage the Sanitation Technology Demonstration Programme, which implements prototypes of new sanitation technologies from grantees of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in real world environments, to monitor and evaluate unit performance as an affordable, sustainable sanitation solution and aid their development.
