NOTICE CONCERNING THIS YEARS CALL FOR RESEARCH PROPOSALS

The WRC will shortly issue invitations to researchers to submit proposals for water-related research to be funded from 1 April 2006 onwards. Invitations will be published on this website and will apply to proposals in two categories (funding streams), namely non-solicited and solicited research.

Invitations will be accompanied firstly, by information on research topics for which funds have been reserved and secondly, detailed instructions regarding how to prepare and submit proposals. In the case of solicited research projects, detailed Terms of Reference (ToRs) will be provided.

It is extremely important that those responding to the invitations take careful note of the information and instructions to be provided, as proposals that are ill-directed, incomplete or incorrect would not qualify for further consideration, i.e., would not be submitted to reviewers for evaluation.

Since the funds distributed by the WRC in support of water research (and, through research, also capacity building) are provided by South African water users,  it is, furthermore, important to note that WRC project funding may not be used beyond our borders. No proposals from outside South Africa, or proposals involving researchers or research groups abroad, will, therefore, be considered for funding.

It is planned to issue calls for proposals on set dates, where-after there will be window periods for proposal submission, as follows:

Call for proposals: May 9, 2005;     Submission deadline: July 8, 2005

Call for proposals: June 24, 2005;     Submission deadline: July 22, 2005

In the meanwhile, researchers interested in submitting research proposals to the WRC are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the WRC's research portfolio for the year 2005/2006 in order to become aware of research topics currently  being addressed.

We look forward to receiving your proposals for research that  is both relevant an innovative!
