Mine water research impact assessment
Expanded Title:The WRC provides leadership for research and development through the support of knowledge creation, transfer and application. It engages stakeholders and partners in solving water related problems which are critical to South Africa’s sustainable development and economic growth, and are committed to promoting a better quality of life for all. To this end, research projects in the whole of the water field are funded at a large number of institutions, utilizing funding from levies on national water sales. In achieving this mission, the WRC faces many challenges. These challenges include the creation of appropriate new water-centered knowledge, its dissemination and application, building knowledge networks and building the knowledge base by building g capacity. In order to retain and strengthen its standing with relevant stakeholders, the WRC should be seen as a “value-for-money” institution, providing research products that will contribute to the socio-cultural, economic, political, technical and environmental aspects and well-being of South Africa and all of its people. To this end, the WRC has embarked upon a number of selected studies to determine and portray the impact that its research products have – and will have in future - to the benefit of the whole of the country. This consultancy was undertaken to provide the WRC and its stakeholders with a concise assessment of the impact of WRC mine water related research investments and products.
