Water Resources of South Africa, 2012 Study (WR2012) SALMOD: salinity modelling of the Upper Vaal, Middle Vaal and Lower Vaal sub-water management areas (new Vaal water management area)
Expanded Title:The Water Resources of South Africa 2012 study provides new and enhanced water resources information for South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. The rainfall-runoff WRSM/Pitman model was a key part of this study and has undergone further enhancement following which it was used to analyse all the catchments in the three countries up to September 2010. There have been a number of new, innovative developments such as a present day analysis of all catchments and development of new tools, techniques and water resources information. All the deliverables have been captured in a website for ease of accessibility, updating and further development. Some of the water resources information include GIS maps; patched monthly rainfall and observed streamflow for all useful stations; WRSM/Pitman systems for all catchments with all associated model data; water quality spreadsheets, graphs and tabular information for water quality stations and an intensive Vaal Water Management Area analysis; quaternary catchment information; land use information; monitoring of rainfall, observed streamflow and water quality information and recommendations for improvement; naturalised and present day flows for all quaternary catchments; reservoir records and 9 reports covering all aspects of the study. This work will greatly facilitate the analysis of integrated water resources across the country for a wide range of users.
