Expanded Title: | The potential of rainwater harvesting has not been fully explored and implemented in South Africa. Rain Water Harvesting has a potential to contribute to the equitable, efficient and sustainable use of water resources with little input costs and effort. Communities that are currently outside the areas with water services stand to benefit from wide application of well-designed rainwater harvesting schemes. The National Water Act does not mention rainwater harvesting as part of integrated water resource provision but promotion of this water resource concept is increasing in momentum in the country. This research investigates various elements of rainwater harvesting and defines a methodology to guide decision makers and water stakeholders as well as the general public on how to implement various techniques of rainwater harvesting, where to implement which techniques as well as explore other variables that should be looked out for when implementing RWH schemes. |
