Pour Flush Trials in the Western Cape
Expanded Title:In response pour flush units were implemented in the following four sites: - implementation of the pour flush toilets at the different trial sites, namely: - Klipheuwel Informal Settlement, City of Cape Town - Klein Begin Community, Grabouw, Theewaterskloof - Enkanini Informal Settlement, Stellenbosch - The Sustainability Institute In total some 25 pour flush units were installed. The achievements have been very innovative and unique, since the pour flush units were applied in both green fields situation and in a retrofit arrangement. The pilots went further to look at different collection and conveyance, as well as treatment options. So we have systems emptying into septic tanks, into a bio-digester, into a treatment facility with black-fly larvae. Thus a lot of innovations have been demonstrated specifically for dense informal settlements.
