Market analysis for UASB seeding granules: local and international markets
Expanded Title:The industrial wastewater treatment sector identified the inability to easily access high quality granular seed sludge as a key inhibitor to the wider application of the UASB reactors for high strength waste in South Africa. In South Africa, this challenge was addressed by Britz et al., (199) who developed a specialized microbial consortium, and later by Els et al., (2005) who designed and built a laboratory-scale reactor to produce these specialized granules. This study was funded to provide the WRC with clear direction on the market demand both nationally and internationally for the UASB seeding granule technology to aid in the decision making process on whether to fund future UASB granulation projects in South Africa.
