The Water Research
Commission (WRC) is a dynamic hub for water knowledge, innovation and
intellectual capital, providing leadership for research and development
through the support of knowledge creation, transfer and application. It
engages stakeholders and partners in solving water-related problems,
which are crucial to South-Africa’s sustainable development and economic
growth, and is committed to promoting a better quality of life for all.
The WRC also seeks to grow its business development capacity in order to
fulfil several strategic objectives related to the WRC’s impact,
technology transfer and the development and strengthening of strategic
partnerships. Applications are invited from suitably qualified
individuals for the Pretoria-based position of
Business Development
Manager
Salary: R792 280 per annum Cost to Company
(5-year contract)
This position calls for a dynamic, experienced and strategic-minded of
professional in business development and partnership management. The
successful candidate will be a member of Key Strategic Area: Business,
Development, Marketing and Communication. The Candidate must have a good
understanding of and experience in South Africa’s water sector and the
water research community. He/she must also have solid experience using
methods and tools for the dissemination of knowledge, impact assessment
and research-based business development. The minimum qualification
required is a postgraduate qualification. The qualification must be
augmented by a proven record (5-6 years) in business development.
The position entails but is not limited to the following
responsibilities:
• Business Development and Stewardship of WRC partnerships
• Development and Management of WRC Stakeholder Strategy
• Develop the WRC Impact/Footprint
• Perform Research Coordination ( e.g. WRC Lighthouses)
• Assess policy trends and national priorities and how these impact WRC
research
• Perform metadata research
• Coordinate the WRC’s quality management system

Communications Manager

This position calls for a dynamic communicator providing marketing and
communications support to the WRC. It also provides the opportunity for
a marketing and communications specialist to develop and drive the WRC’s
strategic knowledge dissemination and research uptake objectives. The
successful candidate will be a member of Key Strategic Area: Business,
Development, Marketing and Communication. The minimum qualification
required is a postgraduate qualification in Communications and/or
Marketing or a related field. The qualification must be augmented by a
proven record (5-6 years) in marketing and/or communications.

leadership for research and development through the support of knowledge
creation, transfer and application. It engages stakeholders and partners
involving water-related problems, which is crucial to South-Africa’s
sustainable development and economic growth, and is committed to
promoting a better quality of life for all. The WRC is embarking on a
three year programme focusing on developing and incorporating the
activities of the Water Information Network (WIN) within the WRC, to
contribute to addressing South Africa’s dual crises of insufficient
water knowledge in key water domains and a critical lack of skills. The
aim is to continue the key work WINSA has performed by diffusing
technical knowledge into the water sector in easily understandable
formats. The all new WINSA will create a pipeline of highly topical,
relevant knowledge sources. Applications are invited from suitably
qualified individuals for the following Pretoria-based position:
Knowledge Dissemination
Officer – Water Information Network
Salary: R322 000 per annum (total package)
(3-year contract)
The successful applicant will be responsible for making WIN vibrant and
proactive by using electronic and social media, through channels such as
Facebook and Twitter, podcasts, RSS feeds and blogs or vlogs. Since the
products of WINSA must respond to the needs of the sector, it must
remain flexible and grow organically. The successful candidate must be
able to network, communicate and coordinate effectively. He/she should
have display strong leadership and coordination skills, as well as good
interpersonal skills. The ability to integrate knowledge from diverse
sources and the ability to select the most appropriate formats, as well
the as route of dissemination, is essential for success.
Applicants must have the following minimum requirements and qualities:
• BA Communications degree or equivalent
• The ability to write for and communicate with a range of audiences
• The ability to network and maintain relationships with a diversity of
stakeholders
• Strategic thinking
• Experience with the media
• A good command of English, and other national languages will be a
bonus
• Strong administrative skills and some ICT and web skills
Appointment will be made in line with the WRC’s employment equity policy
and remuneration will be negotiated on the basis of an all-inclusive
flexible package on a 3-year contract.
