World AIDS Day 2009
Numerous research reports have been produced by the Water Research Commission(WRC) in support of the campaign against the spread of HIV/AIDS. Today the WRC fully joins the rest of the world in spreading the message of hope to those that are effected and infected by the disease . December 2009 , World AIDS day reminds the WRC of the effort that has been put towards the prevention of further infections through the dissemination of information needed for proper management of water and sanitation. According to the latest figures released by the European Commission, new HIV infections have been reduced by 17% over the past eight years and that the most progress is seen in sub-Saharan Africa. However worldwide, the number of people living with HIV now reaches 33 million, with the fastest spread of the epidemic occurring in Africa.
