Conclusion of the RDM masters course curriculum
The Department of Water affairs (DWA) conducted, in collaboration with various other organizations (e.g Water research Commission) a capacity audit of the ability to implement the provision of the NWA (Act 36 of 1998). The capacity audit identified various areas in which capacity is required to successfully implement the provisions of the NWA. The components of water resource protection and sustainable utilization of water resource were specifically identified as requiring capacity.
In order to address the identified requirements the DWA, in collaboration with various organizations initiated the Framework for Education and Training in the water sector (FETWwater). The Fetwater programme utilizes networks as mechanisms, to ensure collaboration, and to address particular capacity needs. Resource Directed Measures (RDM) was identified as the first network to be established, during a meeting in January 2003, during which many tertiary institutions participated. Subsequently a RDM groundwater network was also established.
The RDM networks have developed an outline and content for a proposed MSc degree, which was generic for environmental water requirement determinations and implementation, and therefore applicable to scientists from various countries and institutions. A call for proposals for the ‘Conclusion of the RDM Masters Course Curriculum’ is extended to all the researchers who are keen to do this work. Click here for the Terms of reference.
