15th SANCIAHS National Hydrology Symposium 12-14 September 2011
The WRC participates biannually to the (South African National Committee for the International Association of Hydrological Sciences) SANCIAHS symposium. This year the event was hosted by Rhodes University at Grahamstown on 12-14 September 2011 under the theme ‘Science and practice for sustainable water resources management’. The SANCIAHS programme normally has verbal paper presentations and parallel poster discussion sessions. The WRC played a key role again in this year’s symposium. Wandile Nomquphu, Research Manager at WRC , chaired the Closing Plenary Session, and also participated in the adjudication process for the SANCIAHS ‘Emerging Scientists’ Awards in which 3 of the 4 winners are doctoral students on WRC projects. The WRC contributed a R25 000 sponsorship for the Awards. Almost 55% (or more) of the papers/presentations in the Conference were based on WRC work. The WRC has won the right to organise the 16th SANCIAHS National Hydrology Symposium which is scheduled for September 2012. Wandile will be coordinating the Organising Committee. The WRC is perceived as the original home of the SANCIAHS!
