Title

Dialogue : Water Governance in Traditional Rural Communities of South Africa: Decentralization Options

Location

Newlands , Cape Town , Sports Science Institute of South Africa

Start Time

2015/03/18 09:00 AM

End Time

2015/03/18 04:00 PM

Description

The purpose of the workshop will be to highlight the water and governance issues prevailing in South African traditional rural communities and to discuss policy options for effective water resources governance in these contexts. At the centre of dialogue objectives is the need to collectively reflect on policy options for effective delivery on water sector mandates, particularly for the benefit of vulnerable rural women, men, children and households. Among a range of (existing and/or possible) institutions whose roles will be considered is 'traditional leadership', which plays key roles in the governance of land associated with water resources in traditional community contexts. Given the ongoing reviews of the South African water, land and traditional governance institutions, this is an opportune moment for such reflection.  RSVP on https://www.formdesk.com/walrusmedia/water_day
